I started making wooden models in 1995 for my sons. They always broke their plastic toys and keeping asked me to repair or buy new one, I spent many time to repair. One day I got the idea to make a wood airplane for them.
I did not start from balsa wood because it too soft, I chose local wood "Mai Moke" called in Thai, I don't know in English. Mai Moke is a wood for student to make wooden craft in classroom. In Thailand Mai Moke can find in stationary shop, the size is vary from 8"x10" to 12"x24" but the thickness is only one size 1/4". This wood is easy to cut with fret saw, crave with knife or carving tool and shape with sand paper.
My first wooden model was Super marine Spitfire using 3-view plan from "Battlefield Weekly Magazine". Every year I made one or two models, there were F-68 Super Saber, F-16 Fighting Falcon, MiG-15, MiG-21 Fishbet, X-wing from Star war, Su-27 Flanker and Me-109 is my last modelairplane.
T-55 is only one of my armor model and not yet finished because of I got the problem for making good looking wheel and track assembly. My future armor models are M1A2 Abram and J-2 Stalin.
In June 1998, I started my first ship model with 10" Sloop, I got outline picture from Compton's NewMedia encyclopedia then drawn up 3-view drawing and spent 2 weeks to complete. One day I found ship model Artesania Latina "Mayflower" in hobby shop after getting some information and price from the shop's owner I know that it is very expensive for me, I plan to make my own history model ship.
I haven't the knowledge of ship building before,"plank-on-frame, plank-on-bulkhead" are strange words for me and it is impossible to get ship model book or plan in Bangkok. When I visited used-book shop I found a "U.S. Boat&Ship Modeler Magazine" September 1995 inside there was "Cloning The Mayflower" explaining how to plank over solid form model these make my dream come true. Golden Hind is my first ship model.
